A Deeper Look at the Traditional
Wedding Veil
by: Lisa Parker
In western societies such as the United States, women have traditionally worn wedding veils for hundreds of years. Many years ago, most women wore their hair long; unlike the shorter hairstyles many women have today. Long hair was once thought of as symbol of a woman’s virginity before marriage. Many think of the traditional white wedding veil in the same fashion regardless of the length of the woman’s hair.
Wedding veils were used before the traditional wedding gown and was included in the standard wedding attire in the 1900s. No one seems to have a definitive answer as to exactly when wedding veils came about though. There also is a great deal of mystique and lore surrounding the origins of the veil and the different Christian and secular meanings behind it.
There are religious faiths that require the wearing of wedding veils. This practice follows traditions practiced in biblical times, but not all religions have this requirement and not everyone has the same viewpoints on how religion plays into the wearing of wedding veils.
Many people choose to mix religion, traditions, and new concepts into their weddings. There is a trend towards giving the bride greater liberty to express herself and her personality during the process of choosing wedding invitations, decorations, and food selections. Picking out a style of wedding dress and choosing the apparel that the bridal party wears also falls under this current trend.
Many women choose to wear wedding veils because there is a long held belief that it is bad luck for the groom to see his bride before the exchanging of vows. Another thought process surrounding wedding veils is that concealing a bride behind a veil is for hiding her exquisite beauty from her man until he has earned the right to bask in her beauty by marrying her. Brides have traditionally worn white to symbolize virginity and other virtuous traits a woman possesses. The rules have been relaxed on this over the years; however, brides today wear gowns and veils in a variety of colors from lively to more subdued styles.
It is traditional for a groom to lift his bride’s veil after exchanging vows with one another. This is to symbolize a man taking possession of his bride although most people in modern societies do not think of it in that way anymore. Instead, it is thought of as the bride and groom becoming one union, rather than a woman becoming her husband’s property. However, some people persist in believing the roots of these older traditions.
In some African countries, men wear veils all the time starting around the age of 25 to ward off evil spirits. In contrast, many African women do not typically wear veils for weddings. Muslim women wear headscarves. Japanese women wear headdresses, headscarves, or head wraps. Nuns wear head coverings called wimples.
There are many types of veils that all have different meanings. However, they are sometimes confused with the traditional wedding veil. A wedding veil is said to be a symbol of modesty and innocence, and veils worn by dancers are said to be symbolic of sexuality.
Shopping for bridal attire including wedding veils is made simpler thanks to the wide world web, which offers up a wide selection in styles, sizes, lengths, colors, and prices to fit every bride’s budget and tastes. You can get ideas from comparing different styles and prices without leaving your house. Browsing wedding veils online also allows you to experiment with color options. Ordering wedding apparel, accessories, gifts, invitations, and other wedding related items online can save a lot of time, emotional episodes, and money. It is recommended to check the internet because most online retailers also have a brick and mortal store, which has the same products. You can find the veils that you like online then purchase it at the store depending on when you need it.
It is not mandatory to wear a veil at your wedding, but many brides choose to because the veil is so ingrained into the traditional setting of a wedding. You can wear a veil even if your wedding is more modern than traditional. There is no rule against mixing some older traditions with the new ones you may create with your wedding. It might be interesting to know some of the meanings behind the wearing of the traditional wedding veil. However, your focus should be on savoring every possible moment of this glorious event in your life.

Eco-Friendly Wedding Favors for Your Green Wedding
Rachel Jackson
These days, it seems that everyone's favorite color is green. Eco-friendly is the new black this season. Many couples choose to build their wedding in regards to an eco-friendly wedding guideline. From eco-friendly wedding invitations to eco-friendly wedding favors, there is a rapidly growing industry that caters to those who want to be kinder to the world they live in.
What is Eco-Friendly?
Progressively, we have moved long past the day when we just acknowledged words associating with "recycled." Today's eco-friendly products take their responsibility to the world far deeper than merely printing their brochures or invitations on recycled paper. To be eco-friendly is to participate with the goods and services considered to inflict minimal or no harm on our environment. One maker of a very popular line of eco-friendly wedding invitations, for instance, uses one hundred percent certified post-consumer recycled paper, soy-based inks and a printing process powered entirely by wind-energy, so that no resources are used to add to the carbon footprint of your wedding day.
Eco-Friendly Wedding Favors
If you are determined to have an eco-friendly wedding, there are multiple ways you're your wedding can be green from start to finish. You can even choose to send your guests home with wedding favors that help them to continue eco-friendly behavior well after your wedding is over. Below are some things to look for in an eco-friendly wedding favor, invitation and other wedding accessories.
o If you are an eco-friendly person, you probably already know that you should not have your guests throw rice at your wedding because it is not healthy for the birds. Confetti is not much better because it has harmful dyes that can be detrimental to the environment. Wildflower seeds may seem like a good idea on the surface, but may not be appreciated by neighbors or the venue at which your ceremony is held. Instead, have your guests throw freeze-dried rose petals. These are all natural, biodegradable, and noting says romance quite like roses.
o You can also be eco-friendly by giving wedding favors that live on long past your wedding day. One of the most novel developments in wedding favors is what is known as "plant-able" paper. Created by using recycled rag and paper that is impregnated with wildflower seeds, this paper can be formed into hearts, doves, cones and even wedding invitations. Once the wedding is over, your guests can take their favor home and plant it in the ground. They can remember your wedding fondly as they grow a patch of wildflowers in their own yards.
o Other popular eco-friendly wedding favors include a little clay pot packaged with an ornament such as a dove, a cross, a heart or another wedding-themed motif. They are beautiful table decorations at your wedding, then they can go home with your guests to be planted in a half inch of soil so that they may bloom.
o If you decide to give candy favors to your guests, there are organic chocolates available with minimal packaging which will reduce the amount of waste that your wedding will generate. These chocolates are not only friendly to the environment, but they also taste great!
Other Tips for Making Your Wedding a Green Wedding
If you want a completely eco-friendly wedding, do not stop with the eco-friendly wedding favors. There are many other ways to make your wedding greener. Below are just a few tips for making your wedding a green and Earth-friendly.
o Choose to serve an organic, vegetarian or vegan menu to your guests.
o Try to not use disposable serving ware or dinnerware at your wedding. The water saved by not washing the dishes does not offset the resources used in making disposable plates and dinnerware.
o Choose invitations printed on recycled, unbleached paper, or ones printed with non-petroleum based inks. You can find a number of beautiful eco-friendly wedding invitations online.
o Serve organic coffee at your wedding and all of your wedding events such as rehearsal dinner, engagement party and any others.
o Choose a wedding gown that is eco-friendly. You can either re-use your mother's wedding gown, or buy one that is second-hand. You can also repurpose a gown that was bought at a vintage shop.
o Avoid clothing that needs to be dry-cleaned such as rental tuxes.
o Choose flowers that are grown locally to cut down on the carbon footprint of transporting the flowers cross-country or over the ocean.
o While you are thinking flowers, think about choosing live centerpieces that can go home with your guests and be replanted. Small trees are an ideal choice because they will grow up to help reduce the carbon emissions in the atmosphere and continue doing good things for our earth for decades.
o If possible, hold your wedding outdoors and use as little electricity as possible. An afternoon outdoor wedding is beautiful, romantic and uses very little in the way of generated energy. You will have the advantage of natural light and the beauty of the Earth as your backdrop.
Ask your photographer to use digital media and provide digital proofs of your wedding photographs. That will cut down on the amount of chemicals used in developing your photographs and the use of paper photos.

DIY Wedding Invitations for Beach Weddings
by: Genesis Davies
There are plenty of professional beach wedding invitations that you can purchase, but if you are trying to come in under budget and would like to add a special touch, then DIY wedding invitations are the way to go.
This article will cover a few ideas to get you started making your own invites, but you will probably come up with even more ideas as you read. The idea here is to keep things very simple, yet beautifully done. Be sure to enlist the help of your bridesmaids when making the invitations.
Sandy Memories
This is one DIY wedding invitation that can be done very quickly and easily. You will need light blue cardstock, a custom stamp with your wedding information on it, embossing ink and brown or sand colored embossing powder, as well as a heat source, such as a blow dryer.
This works best done assembly line style, one person should do the stamping, the next sprinkles powder and shakes it off and the third person can heat it to set the embossing powder. To really set things off, you may wish to add embossed blue waves at the bottom of the card, starfish or even seaweed along the edge. Or you could punch holes in the upper left corner of each card and use a string or ribbon to tie a small seashell charm to the card.
Starfish Invites
These DIY wedding invitations are a little more time consuming because you will need to cut out the shapes, unless you can find a die cutter that is the right size for this. You will need beige or ivory cardstock, folded in half and cut so that two arms of the starfish fall on the fold. Essentially you will have two starfish that are attached by the folded arms.
It really is useful to get a stamp made up with all your wedding information. While this may seem a little costly, it will save you hours of work.
Alternatively, you could carefully print everything on the computer and then cut out your starfish.
Add a little glue and some sparkling sand around the outline on the front of the starfish invitation and you're done.
Message in a Bottle
To really take the beach wedding theme to extremes, these DIY wedding invitations are particularly fun. You will need a small bottle for each invitation, about 3" long and 1" wide, more or less, as well as corks for each one and a piece of parchment paper.
Write, print or stamp your invitation information on a rectangle of paper, roll it up and push it into the bottle, then cork it. If you want to add a little extra oomph, try sprinkling some sand in the bottle or even drop in a couple of starfish or shell charms or beads before corking. You can also decorate the outside of the bottle with ribbons and charms, if desired.
These are just a few DIY wedding invitations to give you an idea of what is possible. It's amazing what you can do with some pretty paper, a little embossing powder and several friends in an evening!

Quick Guide To Making Your Own
Wedding Invitations
by: Amy Spade
While you may not be the craft goddess or god, you can certainly make your own wedding invitations. Many couples look into this option because they think that it will be cheaper than the regular printed invitations, but this is not necessarily true. The pricing may be the same depending on the materials that you use.
What is more special about home made invitations is the heart that goes into them.
Getting the materials
Going to your local arts and crafts store can be a truly wonderful time, but only if you have a little bit of an idea of what you need. Where a lot of expense comes in is when you're wandering around aimlessly looking at things to buy. You end up purchasing things that you'll never use.
Here's the way to shop smart (even if you don't have a plan). First, know how many invitations that you need to make. This will help you to choose materials that won't cost a lot if you have to make a lot of invites. Know a few colors that you think you'd like to see in your invites. And if there's a theme that you're considering, then think about that too.
Go through the aisles of the store and pick up things that you think might work for an invitation. Right now, you'll only be buying enough to make a sample of your invitation. You want to see if you can make something before you buy a whole bunch of materials.
When you get home
Now that you have a little bag of crafts, start making your sample invitations. You don't need to worry about the words just yet (these can be printed by a computer), so just make the rest of the invite. A lot of the time, what you plan to do doesn't quite work out, or it takes too much time and materials. Just try a bunch of things, and when you find something that looks great, write down everything that you used to make it.
This will be your list for when you go back to the store.
Making the actual wedding invitations doesn't need to be any more complicated than using a scissors and some glue. Try different colored ribbons and shells even. Use thick card stock paper for a background color and place a white sheet of paper where the wording will go.
And don't worry so much about being perfect. Although you want to make your invitations looks great, you also want them to still seem like you made them. Don't get too worried if something is slightly askew.

Casual and Modern Ways
to Word Wedding Invitations
by: Grace W. Chen
If the idea of traditional wedding invitation wording clashes with your need for self-xpression and the ability to invite guests in your own words, then read on for casual and modern ways to word your invitations that will not only give you the freedom to exhibit your personality, but will still accomplish all that etiquette dictates an invitation should.
Essential Elements of Wedding Invitations
In today's more relaxed culture, where etiquette rules seem to fall through the cracks, weddings are one area where these rules are still important, especially concerning invitation wording. Invitations function as physical reminders of your upcoming wedding and are sent not only to invite guests, but to inform them of your wedding details.
However, you may relax your wording and ease past etiquette mandates that often leave invitations sounding formal and uniform instead of reflecting the personalities of the happy couple. When wording your wedding invitations, keep in mind that you must include the full names of those hosting the wedding, as well as the bride and groom. You must also include the request line, which asks guests to be present for your wedding. Of course, wedding details, such as time of day, date, and location also need to be listed on the invitation. The difference will be the way you word these necessary components.
Casual Wedding Invitation Wording Samples
If your wedding will be traditionally hosted, but you want to loosen up the feel of the wording to match a casual invitation, consider the modern way to introduce the important people: the hosts without formal surnames.
Tom and Sarah Fuller
request the honor of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Catherine Anne
to
Patrick John
son of
John and Lilly Miller
If you want to make the invitation wording even more casual, consider changing the traditional request line to a more relaxed phrase that will mimic the tone of your wedding.
Tom and Sarah Fuller
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of their daughter
Catherine Anne
to
Patrick John
son of
John and Lilly Miller
Or
Tom and Sarah Fuller
invite you to share and celebrate
the marriage of their daughter
Catherine Anne
to
Patrick John
son of
John and Lilly Miller
If both the parents and the couple are hosting the wedding together, then word the invitation so that everyone is acknowledged.
Catherine Anne Fuller
and
Patrick John Miller
together with their parents
request the pleasure of your company
at their marriage
If the couple will host the wedding, then their parents don't need to be formally mentioned on the invitation, although their emotional contribution should still be recognized at the wedding.
Catherine Anne Fuller
and
Patrick John Miller
invite you to share their joy
as they exchange marriage vows
You can easily adapt any of these wording samples to reflect your personality. If you have want to tie in your request line with your wedding theme or location, then go ahead as long as the intentions and the main components of a wedding invitation are recognizable to guests. This way you'll have a unique memento of your wedding worth keeping.

Inspiration For DIY Wedding Invitations
by: Nicola Ray
Getting ready to get married is a huge, sometimes overwhelming experience, and you may thing that a DIY wedding invitation will simply add stress. However, designing your own wedding invitations can allow you to get exactly what you want without paying a fortune, and it's not all that hard, either. So follow these simple steps to let loose your creativity and create your own wedding invitations.
1. Gather inspiration. A few online searches will bring up plenty of beautiful invitation designs that you can draw ideas from. Look specifically at invitations by professional designers and letterpress stationery leaders, and use some of their brilliant ideas in your own DIY wedding invitations.
2. Good design is first of all about balance, which is simply how different parts of an invitation are related to one another position-wise. Look through your inspirational pictures for ideas about whether you want all the objects and texts to be spread evenly across the background or to be arranged more loosely on the page. Multiple objects on your wedding invitations will add texture and balance to your invitations.
3. Find your "anchor" object or focal point. Professional wedding invitations, you'll probably notice, will be centered around a picture, object, or design that acts as the invitation's focal point. A particularly popular technique is to use a picture of you and your fiancé slightly off of the center of the invitation and to put a frame around the picture. Placing the anchor off-center and using a frame will lend a more polished look to your DIY wedding invitations.
4. Be sure that your colors aren't too bright or busy and that they are complimentary. Using different shades of the same color can keep your invitations simple and classy, but you can also use just two contrasting colors for extra pizzazz. Before you decide on colored papers, experiment with printing on them, as different colors will look different. Also, when choosing fonts, make sure your text is visible and the style suits your wedding - an elegant font for an upscale wedding, and something simpler for a down-to-earth celebration.
With these steps, you can create beautiful, personalized DIY wedding invitations. Keep it simple, and your invitations will be cherished by you and your guests for a lifetime.

When you start writing your wedding budget, you might feel a little overwhelmed at first. There are so many things to spend money on that you may not even know where to begin writing budget items. You can, however, write and stick with a successful budget if you follow these easy steps.
Where to begin
Before you even start crunching numbers, write down the things that are essential for your wedding. Talk to your fiancé because he might have different ideas from you, and you'll want to figure out the best way to merge your styles before writing a budget.
Talk to your fiancé about what your perfect wedding would be like, and listen to him talk about his perfect wedding. If you're coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, figure out how to meet in the middle and agree on a theme or look you'll both love.
Next, how much can you spend?
This is a pretty important step, of course. The best place to start is usually with your parents. They may want to contribute a lump sum to your wedding plans, or they may have a few particular things in mind that they'll pay for. Any money your parents contribute plus any wedding money you have saved can be set aside for your wedding budget.
Don't use credit or loans to up the ante for your wedding budget. Even if you only have a little to work with, adding debt will only stress you and your husband-to-be out, especially at the start of your marriage.
You may want to open a bank account or a credit card specifically for your wedding because it will help you track each payment. Each month leading up to the big day, you can look over an account ledger to find out just how much you've spent. (If you decide to go the credit card route, find one with a 0% introductory interest rate, and pay it off every month. You don't want interest rolled into your wedding budget!)
Use all your resources
If you know people who would make excellent photographers, chauffeurs, invitation-makers, dress makers, or anything else you'll need on your wedding day, make a list.
Your friends and family members will most likely be elated to help out on your wedding day. Plus, using the talents of people you know will make your wedding day both more special and more affordable.
Make a guest list
Create a rough list of how many guests you'll invite. It's really easy for your parents and his parents to add extended family members and out-of-town friends to this list, so be careful here.
You really shouldn't invite people to your wedding if you don't want them there or know them well, so here are a few ideas to help you pare down the list
don't invite people you just work with; only friends
only include relatives up to first cousins
have an adults-only wedding
Paring down the guest list is difficult but necessary, and you'll need to include your fiancé and his family as well as your family, as they may want to add people you hadn't thought of.
Total up the big costs
Having an approximate number of guests will help you figure out some of your big costs such as catering, venues, and drinks, and you can include these in your budget plan now.
You can start getting more specific by calling vendors you like. See if they're available first of all, and then get estimated costs for the number of guests you'll have. It will be easy to see whether or not the vendors fit into your budget, so you can move on quickly and ask for more specific quotes from the most affordable vendors.
Add up smaller costs too
Start filling up a spreadsheet with the smaller costs of decorations and favours. Keep the sheet updated as you figure out exact costs for everything.
Over budget?
If the rough budget you've written out now is much too high, you'll have to consider your priorities. Maybe you need a smaller cake, or a DJ instead of a live band.
Decide how you and your fiancé want to splurge and how you can afford to save. You could make your own invitations so that you have extra money for a designer dress. It's really important that you prioritize and stay on budget, as going over budget will be very stressful.
If you simply don't have enough money saved to create the wedding day you want, you could consider moving your date back a few months giving you time to save that extra cash.
The little things
When it comes to your wedding budget, it won't be the costly items that throw your budget off but the small ones. It can be simple to save money on big ticket items, but the little things can really start adding to your budget. So watch yourself when it comes to little things, and keep all your receipts so you can update your wedding budget all the time.

Financial Wedding Planning
By: Georgina Clatworthy
You've probably already realized it - weddings aren't cheap! Traditionally the parents of the bride would have paid for the whole shebang, but in modern times that isn't the case. The majority of engaged couples now opt to pay for the wedding themselves in it's entirety or share the costs with their parents. With the cost of the average wedding now over $25,000 it is important that you start saving & budgeting as early as possible.
If your dream wedding is a big, traditional affair with all the bells & whistles, then you should sit down & work how long it will take you to save up enough money to afford it. Take some time to research prices for the larger expenses such as the ceremony, reception & honeymoon. This will give you some idea of the total cost of your wedding. Make sure you include everything you want, from horse drawn carriages to fresh rose petals for the flowergirls to scatter, that way if you find the total figure way out of reach you can trim it down by eliminating some of the non-essential items from your list. Once you have got your list, work out your budget & how much you save every month towards it. Divide the wedding budget by the amount you can save each month to discover how many months it will take you to save up for it.
If you want your wedding on a certain day in the year rather than an extravagent wedding, then base your budget around that date. Add up the months until that day & then work out your monthly budget. Once you have a figure for the amount you can set aside each month multiply it by the number of months you have available. This will give you a wedding budget to work for.
If you are concerned by your wedding budget then it is a good idea to prioritize each wedding expense. Doing this will help you decide if something should be dropped from the wedding or done cheaper. For example, you wanted a six tier cake but are quite happy to go for two tiers & some plain cutting cakes to make up the difference, or you will happily serve champagne for the toasts but serve sparkling wine as a welcome drink.
It will always pay to shop around for the best deals, even if your budget is large. Finding the best deals can save you money & allow to include things that you may have originally discounted because of cost. Look around local vendors & bridal shops as well as researching online for good deals & best prices. Try to compare all offers as the cheapest may not necessarily be the best. Paying a little bit more may actually give you more for your money.
Good financial planning is an essential part of the wedding planning process. Whether you plan your wedding around your budget or wait until you have saved enough money for everything you want, drawing up a strategy for your budget is important to avoid any disappointment or unnecessary stress.

8 Tips For Doing Your Own Wedding Catering
by: Nicola Ray
DIY wedding catering is a great way to feed a lot of hungry people. Although it isn't easy, it can be done if you plan carefully and look at all your options. Before you begin planning, though, look at the following ideas to create the perfect catered wedding reception.
1. Make it simple
As you decide what to serve at your reception, take into account your talents and the time that will be available to you, and make the menu as simple as you can.
Find items for your menu that you can make ahead of time and store until the day of your wedding, and don't use complex, difficult recipes that will only stress you out.
2. Ask for help
You probably have friends and relatives who love to cook, so ask around to see if people can help with side dishes, salads, and even breads. Those who help might even take care of the cost of the dish they make too, helping you save a little more.
3. Think about health regulations
It's essential when preparing your own food to follow health regulations just like a professional caterer would. Wash your hands often, and keep your work spaces clean. Avoid cross-contamination, especially when working with meats, and be sure that items are both cooked and stored correctly.
If you're having a summer wedding, be sure you have plenty of fridge space to keep all the food cold. You should have more than enough space, even if you have to beg fridges from relatives or rent them from specialty stores.
4. Remember the utensils
Don't forget to count how you will eat the foot and what utensils will be needed. Plates, bowls, spoons, knives, and forks will all probably be necessary, and you'll also need napkins and tablecloths to complete the ensemble.
You can probably rent these items from a specialty shop, and the shop may even clean them up afterwards for a little extra money, which will be well worth it.
5. Find Free Service Help
Even if you cook the whole meal, you obviously won't be the one serving the food and drinks, so get people to volunteer for these jobs, or hire a few local teenagers for a small fee. Before they serve, though, you or someone you put in charge needs to be sure they know what they're doing.
6. Think About Little Things
Professional caterers have been doing this for years, but you might easily forget about salt and pepper, sugar, butter, storage containers, bottle openers, ice buckets, ash trays, and such. Make a complete list of everything you need, and double check it a few days before the wedding.
7. Find Good Deals
You can look for deals on storable essentials like flour, sugar, and even butter in the months leading up to your wedding. Having these things on hand will be helpful later on, and you'll save lots of money if you shop around for them.
8. Shop Locally
Local shops will have the best quality meats and produce, and they'll probably even deliver the food to your door for free, which makes for one less pre-wedding errand to run!
Hopefully these tips will help you understand what goes into catering your own wedding, but you'll still need to think carefully about what to serve and how. Good luck!

5 Tips to Save On Your Wedding Cake
by: Nicola Ray
Save On Your Wedding Cake: Five Tips
Wedding cakes nowadays are growing more and more intricate. Several layers of cake, elegant cake toppers, and mounds of decorative icing can cause your cake costs to add up quickly.
Not long ago, I was browsing around a specialist cake bakery shop that also sold cake-making supplies. I asked about the cost of special-made wedding cakes and was shocked at the starting price. The lowest priced made-to-order cake was £300, and I wasn't even in London!
You can save your money when it comes to a wedding cake, though. Here are my top five ways to save money on a cake.
1. Get a sponge cake instead of a fruit cake
Even though fruit cakes are traditionally used as wedding cakes, more of today's brides choose sponge cakes instead. For the most part, sponge cakes are simpler than fruit cake because they don't involve soaking fruit or feeding the cake after it is baked. Therefore, sponge cakes save time and money.
If the thought of having all sponge cake doesn't appeal to you, you can actually add a little more elegance by creating a cake that has different flavours in each layer. My sister-in-law had two layers, one of which was an expensive passion cake and the other was a cheaper but still delicious chocolate sponge cake. The layers worked together beautifully and cut costs.
2. Do-it-yourself decorations
Unless you're a wonderful baker, you probably don't want to ice your wedding cake on your own, but you can save yourself a lot of cash by doing the decor yourself. Fresh fruit, petals and flowers can be matched to your wedding bouquet and sprinkled over the cake for a beautiful effect.
3. Do-it-yourself cake
A great way to save lots of money is to bake your own wedding cake. If you're not a fantastic cook or baker, you can ask a friend or family member who is good in that area to make the cake as a gift for you. They're sure to jump at the chance to help you out.
If you do want to create your own wedding cake, be sure to do a trial run, and stick with an easy recipe. The hardest part of turning out a beautiful cake is icing it correctly, so you may want to hire someone to do this part, or just choose to keep the decorating simple with fresh fruit and flowers.
4. Create a multi-cake extravaganza
Why not have a cake made of lots of mini fairy cakes? Create an interesting design by piling them up on top of one another or by using a traditional cake stand to create the illusion of a layer cake. You can use many flavours of cake and colours of icing, and you won't have any problems deciding how to cut the cake.
To make this approach work, bake the little cakes a couple of days ahead of time. If you have too much else to do, ask some friends to help you out by baking a dozen fairy cakes each. Each friend could also ice the cakes in different colours and use different flavours.
5. Try the supermarkets
If you need a beautiful wedding cake that is really cheaply priced, then check out your local supermarkets. Often, they'll carry many different cakes at very affordable prices. Marks and Spencer actually has a lot of cake styles and flavours; they look great, and the price is great, too.

Ideas For Cheap Wedding Cakes
by: Nicola Ray
A little out-of-the-box thinking can help you find lots of ideas for cheap wedding cakes.
Some of these ideas can help you find a tasty, beautiful cake without spending way too much money.
Try out the supermarket
Lots of supermarkets actually have beautiful cakes that would make great wedding cakes. For the best bet, check out Asda and Waitrose, who have lots of plain iced 'celebration' cakes to choose from.
Marks and Spencer actually has a wedding cake service that makes beautiful cakes at only a small percent of the specialist bakeries. Actually, a cake specialist recently recommended using Marks and Spencer to me for wedding cakes.
Give your cake different flavours
Some types of cakes, like rich fruit cakes, are more expensive because they take a lot longer to make. Fruit cakes are expensive because the fruit has to be soaked before it can even be baked, and paying someone to go through this whole process for you is really expensive.
One idea for cheap wedding cakes is to order a layer cake with different flavours in each layer. If your fiancé desperately wants a fruit cake on his wedding day, consider making the smallest top layer in this flavour and then using cheaper varieties like chocolate or vanilla for the lower layers.
Use smaller cakes
Little cakes - like fairy cakes - can make a gorgeous wedding cake if you display them correctly, and they're cheaper because they usually use fewer ingredients. You can even have your friends help with your special day by making a few small cakes each.
Don't overdo the decoration
Buy a plain iced cake, which is much cheaper than an elaborately decorated one, and give it the finishing touches yourself. You don't even have to know how to decorate with icing, as you can use fresh flowers and fruits to dress the cake in your wedding colours. My best friend and I both did this for our cheap wedding cake, and they turned out beautifully.
Ask for it as a gift
If you have a friend or relative who is a skilled baker or cake decorator, see if he or she will make your wedding cake as your gift. Your baker will probably be more than happy to give you a wedding present that you'll never forget.

Save Money When Buying Wedding Invitations
by: Lisa Parker
It seems that everyone is on a budget these days. For this reason, purchases are more heavily scrutinized, and decisions are more thought out. While planning a wedding on a budget can be delicate process, an incredible event can still be orchestrated even while the purse strings are held tightly. There are opportunities for saving money in many areas of a wedding, from the wedding invitations to the thank you cards.
Deciding on wedding invitations is one of the first choices the bride and groom will make. This is a great time to investigate all styles, colors and options available in order to find the best invitations, at the best price as well.
Of course, the happy couple does not want their wedding invitations to look like budget wedding invitations. Fortunately, there are so many wedding invitation options out there that you can find beautiful wedding invitations that do not put a major dent in your wedding budget. Here are just some of the ways that you can save money when buying wedding invitations.
Shop for wedding invitations online
Shopping online gives you a huge marketplace to shop in. You are not confined to the prices that your local printers might charge. Instead, you get to pick from a wide selection of wedding invitation vendors. Be sure to compare prices, delivery dates and quality. A lot of the wedding invitations styles you will find on one site are similar if not identical to wedding invitations that you will find at other wedding web sites. If you keep a watchful eye when comparing price, quality and style, you should have no problem finding invitations you will be excited to send out.
Decide what wedding stationery you need before you order
Do you really need every single piece of stationery that's offered just because it coordinates with your wedding invitations? Be selective and only order the pieces that you really need. Wedding invitations and envelopes are a must, of course, but can you wait on thank you cards until after the wedding? Also, eliminating save the date cards as well as menu cards are another way to cut costs. Pick and choose only what you need, but be sure to order everything at once so you can save money on shipping costs.
Consider what parts you can do yourself
Beribboned invitations are among the most stylish options available to today's bride. You can save about 5% off the cost of your invitations by buying double-faced satin ribbon and adding ribbon embellishments to your invitations before you slip them into the envelope.
The ultimate in DIY wedding invitations, of course, is to print your own invitations at home. With a purchased wedding invitation kit, you can even duplicate complicated and beautiful wedding overlay photo invitations that are usually only available through the highest priced printers.
Choose simple themed wedding invitations with one color printing
The more colors that are involved in the printing process, the more the invitation will cost. To keep costs low, choose a wedding invitation style that is printed in one color only. There are some very elegant invitations with silhouette designs printed in one color that can be further embellished if your heart desires.
Order completely coordinated wedding "sets"
You can find beautiful sets of invitations that are designed to coordinate with your entire wedding party. The advantage to choosing wedding invitations at a site that offers everything you need for your wedding is that the colors available for your invitations will be available throughout the full range of their invitation supplies. That means that you can choose a simple invitation and then embellish it with envelope foil inserts, ribbons and insert cards that match each other perfectly.
It also means that you can choose the invitations that you love, and then choose other wedding stationery that coordinates in color, but is from a less expensive line. Mixing and matching that way lets you put your money into the pieces that are more important to you and save on pieces that will coordinate without matching precisely. Your wedding will be unique and beautiful, and within your budget.
Choose a basic invitation and embellish to your heart's content
The most basic invitations can easily be the most elegant. Choose a simple, one panel flat invitation and then customize it to make it your own. Choose ink color that coordinates with envelope liners, add a vellum wrap and tied it with a matching ribbon. Buy it a la carte and assemble it yourself to save big money on invitations that look like the most expensive ones in the store.
Your wedding invitations are the first impression that your guests will have of your wedding, and your thank you cards are their lasting memory. Choose well, and feel free to mix and match within the range of invitations to find your own perfect style. Your wedding invitations will not only make a lasting impression, they will fit right into your budget and reflect your own unique style for less.

Tips On Choosing Your Wedding Invitations
by: Amy Spade
This is your big day and you want everything to be absolutely perfect, so the invitation is the best way to send the right impression to your guests. You want to show the theme of your wedding as well as give important details, so there's a lot to consider.
Setting the tone
If you're a fun loving person, then there's no need to pick a stodgy old wedding invitation. And why would you? You want to show your guests the real you (and that includes both soon-to-be spouses) as well as what they can expect for the events of the afternoon or evening.
Decide with your fiancé or fiancée what the overall theme of the wedding will be. If you're stumped on that, perhaps you can choose more than one idea and figure out invitations for each. A lot of couples will actually choose a theme from the invitation, rather than the other way around.
Not only are the pictures or illustrations on the invitation a way to show guests the colors and the atmosphere, but the wording can be a sign as well. By choosing casual phrases like 'May 28' instead of the '28th of May in the Year of Our Lord,' you can signal to the recipient that your reception and ceremony may be a little less formal.
Buying or making?
Of course, you may have looked in various bridal magazines or at print shops for wedding ideas, but this doesn't necessarily mean that you have to purchase them. A lot of couples decide that they want to make their own and add another personal touch to their wedding affair.
But for the busy couple, having your invitations made to order is the best course of action. By looking at samples and choosing the wording that you would like, the invitations will be personalized (even the envelopes can be printed for your convenience), so all you have to do is buy stamps and find the nearest mailbox.
If you have a little more time and patience, then you may want to consider creating your own wedding invitation. You will find that this process takes a bit longer than you think, but the results are tremendous.
Sit down with that book of samples for the printed invitations and see if there are any that you like, and can duplicate. Many times you can even use a home computer to do the printing for you.

Buying Wedding Invitations?
A Step By Step Guide
To Saving Money And Getting What You Order
by: Kim Lapp
Wedding invitations can be ordered in several different ways. You can order your invitations online or in a stationery shop. You can also find a company that customizes your invitations based on your theme and style of your wedding. Choosing the perfect wedding invitation can be a daunting task. Making sure that the invitation wording is correct is essential. Many brides have had to reorder their wedding invitations because they made a mistake when entering their information during the ordering process.
Choosing your invitations
12 months before your wedding day
I like to have my brides order their invitations on the internet. There are several advantages to ordering online. The biggest is that you have the ability to preview your invitations with your customized text before you place your order. As soon as you have reserved your wedding date and location send your save-the-date announcements.
Ordering your wedding invitations
Six months before wedding day
Spend the money to order a sample, many times I have found that brides base their opinion on the picture from the internet. The images on a website do not tell you the thickness of paper or the color of the invitation details. Don't forget to order the thank you cards, wedding programs, reception and response cards.
Tip: Be careful when choosing your font, not all fancy script is easy to read.
Order a proof of the invitation.
This can delay your order for up to a week, but the satisfaction of knowing that you can edit or proof the wording on your invitations is well worth it.
Track your order
Make sure that where you order your invitations that website has the ability to give you a confirmation email and tracking number for your order. You will then get an email with when you invitations ship.
