Thinking About Getting A Tattoo?
2 Videos You Should Watch
Tattoos aren't the kind of artwork you can just take off the wall and hide in a closet when you tire of them.
Tattoos can say a lot about the person wearing them. Take your time and choose wisely.
Thanks Pat
How to Prepare to Get a Tattoo
The big day (or night) is finally here. You have tested, pondered and selected your perfect tattoo, and then you found the perfect tattoo shop to get your tattoo design inked. You know that you are going to treasure this tattoo for the rest of your life, and you are eager to get the process underway. However, just because you have decided that this tattoo is for you does not mean it is all over yet. You still have one more responsibility before you hand over the reins - and your tattoo stencil and color guide - to the tattoo artist. You need to be sure that your body is as prepared as possible to get this tattoo so that the experience is as pleasant, painless and convenient as possible.
( Click On The Book to get " So You Want To Get A Tattoo" eBook FREE )
Of course, the most important part of getting a tattoo is being prepared. You need to know what you want going in so that you can clearly communicate your desires to a tattoo artist and get the perfect tattoo. The best way to accomplish this part of getting a tattoo is to bring in your own stencil that you have already selected to be your tattoo design. A stencil is a temporary pattern that can be transferred to your skin to serve as a guide for your tattoo. Generally, stencils also come with color guides or colored images to further guide the tattoo artist as they create your tattoo. You should also have already decided on a location for your tattoo and discussed this with the tattoo artists. Some tattoo artists will tattoo anywhere, while others have a few areas of the body that they consider too painful or too personal to ink.
When the big day arrives, it pays to take care of yourself. Getting a tattoo involves sitting still for an extended length of time while a process that ranges in effect from mildly irritating to quite painful, depending on the person and the location of the tattoo, is carried out. As a result, you need to be prepared to hold a position and resist wiggling, squirming or flinching as you get your tattoo. The best way to be prepared for this process is to be well rested and well nourished. While you might think that being tired will help you hold still, in reality being tired will make you and your body less tolerant of the sensation of being tattooed and cause you to have less resistance when it comes to fidgeting. Also, make sure that you have eaten before you get a tattoo. Even though most people do not find the tattoo process particularly painful, holding still for that long and the mildly painful sensation of a needle driving ink into your skin can make you lightheaded. The best way to avoid this is to eat a healthy but light meal about thirty minutes before you get tattooed. Avoid heavy and greasy foods that might upset your stomach or give you heartburn so that you can be as comfortable as possible while you are getting tattooed.
What you drink before getting your tattoo is also very important. You should drink plenty of water so that you are well hydrated, but avoid alcohol and caffeine. Both can make you fidgety, necessitate frequent trips to the bathroom and make the tattooing process more painful. Many tattoo shops will refuse to tattoo you if you have been drinking or are visibly drunk. While this is partly for their own protection, it is mostly for yours, as selecting a tattoo while intoxicated can lead you to make life changing - and body altering - decisions that cannot be reversed. Also, if you have been drinking alcohol before getting tattooed, you will likely bleed much more than you would otherwise. This makes it harder to tattoo you and can create hysteria if you are already drunk. Of course, you should also avoid drugs before tattooing. Many people think that some types of drugs, such as marijuana or pain relievers, will help them relax during the tattooing process. However, in reality they can make the process feel as if it is dragging on by affecting your perception of time, and also can make the process much more painful. As with alcohol, drug use generally causes tattoo artists to call a halt to the tattooing process until a time at which you are sober.
Getting a tattoo is exciting, but most people know understand that it is going to sting a little. Being prepared in every aspect is the best way to make your tattoo experience the best experience possible. By preparing yourself mentally and physically for getting a tattoo, you set yourself up to really enjoy the tattooing experience, and to eagerly anticipate getting your next tattoo.

Shark Tattoos
Sharks are a type of fish with a full cartilage skeleton and a highly streamlined body. They breathe through gill slits and have replaceable teeth. They have a strong sense of smell and can detect as little as one part per million of blood in seawater. Some species of sharks can live to be over 100 years old.
Polynesians also considered the shark to be a sacred animal. For them, the shark tattoo served to protect them from their enemies. A Polynesian fisherman would also sport tattoo symbols to protect him and his vessel from sharks in the waters where he fished. In Hawaii, you'll hear about the protective power of the aumakua, a row of tattooed dots around the ankle that keep sharks at bay.
Sharks figure prominently in the Hawaiian mythology. There are stories of shark men who have shark jaws on their back. They could change form between sharks and human at any time they desired. A common theme in the stories was that the shark men would warn beach-goers that sharks were in the waters. The beach-goers would laugh and ignore the warnings and go swimming, subsequently being eaten by the same shark man who warned them not to enter the water. Kamohoali'i is the best known and revered of the shark gods. He was able to take on all human and fish forms. A summit cliff on the crater of Kilauea is considered one of his most sacred spots. At one point, he had a heiau (temple or shrine) dedicated to him on every piece of land that jutted into the ocean on the island of Moloka'i.
A shark tattoo represents power, strength and fearlessness. It's been a long tradition among sailors to have a shark tattoo as proof you are not afraid of death at sea. Sailors also sport shark tattoos for protection.

DRAGON TATTOOS
History - Meaning and Mythology
Whether born of fantasy, myth, misinterpretation, or a little of each, the dragon is a mysterious creature in the history and tradition of nearly all cultures since the beginning of time. The dragon tattoo design makes a unique and powerful personal statement for the individual who chooses it for self-expression in body art. Do you picture yourself with a dragon tattoo? If so, here are some things to consider when you choosing the right design for you.
Why are Dragon Tattoo Designs Are so Popular?
Dragons are a classic choice for a tattoo design. They are more popular then many other mythological creatures including mermaid tattoos, gryphon tattoos and fairy tattoos. Dragons are depicted as powerful and free. Their legend is always cloaked in magic and mystery. They come from the tops of Japanese mountains and the bottom of the deepest oceans. Dragons are usually portrayed as highly intelligent and evolved creatures.
Because of their ferocious appeal, dragons have been depicted by artists throughout history in a wide variety of forms. Todays tattoo designers and illustrators have taken the art of the dragon to amazing new levels. Whether you want a traditional dragon tattoo or one with a cutting edge modern look you will find an incredible gallery of amazing images to choose from. Tattoo artists have paid special attention to creating images of dragons because they look great on the skin. In color or in black and white, dragons can wrap around the body and flatter the contours of the body. Dragons can be depicted as tribal, celtic or jade designs. Etched in black, red or blue a tribal dragon is a strong bold image. When designed carefully, a celtic dragon adds distinct touch to any tattoo collection. A dragon tattoo design can go from one part of the body to another for a unifying effect on a large body design. Elaborate, bestial, beautiful or bizarre, the dragon tattoo may appear with wings or without, fire-breathing or not. For those of you who hear the dragon tattoo beckon, their diversity in form offers up a unique selection that will continue to inspire.
The History of the Dragon in mythology and design.
The word Dragon is derived from the Greek word drakon and is connected to derkomai, indicating it is a seeing serpent with a gaze like lightning. The English term, drake or fire drake comes from the Anglo Saxon draca, or the Latin draco, which is similar to the flying dragon.
The many depictions of dragons is incredibly diverse and complex. No other creature in mythology has appeared in so many cultures from such remote parts of the world. While many of us conjure up a terrifying beast when envisioning a dragon, the Oriental or Asian dragon is depicted as a graceful, flowing beast, as it glides effortlessly through the air. The Chinese dragon is rendered as a long and serpent-like creature without wings. They are seen as ancient and intelligent creatures. European and medieval dragons have a more ferocious and primitive appearance. They often look more lizard-like with long tails and wings. While they to are often seen as intelligent creatures, they sometimes can be portrayed as mindless brutes. Talons, fangs, fire, scaled skins, and red eyes are typical of the dragon images we see in art and have come to imagine.
Dragon Symbolism, Mythology & Folklore
Dragons hold a special place in all of mythology and folklore.
These enchanted creatures sit at the top of the food chain and have inspired many different meanings and myths.
The Australian Aboriginal Rainbow Serpent has appeared in art as far back as 6000 years. Attributed with the creation of the earth from the void and the human creation, Rainbow Serpent continues to play a role in Aboriginal culture and art. Aido-Hwedo, the African creator snake purportedly created the rivers and streams with his serpentine coils, and the mountain peaks with his excrement. Numerous other dragons are present in creation lore and have inspired writers, artists and travelers from Leonardo Da Vinci to Marco Polo. The dragon is credited with the creation, maintenance, and the destruction of the earth. War and pestilence are familiar territory for the dragon.
Dragons are associated with the dead in Scandinavian myth and in England, they were believed to have guarded over graves. In the West, dragons were viewed as fire-breathing sentinels who guarded treasure, and their fiery red eyes were said to reflect those treasures.
Revered by many, despised and feared by others, the dragon was said to exist some place between the demon and the Devil in the Christian faith, but in the East, the dragon was a benevolent son of heaven, and controlled the elements of air, water and fire.
Dragons are frequently portrayed as bringers of death. The black dragon Nidhog (corpse-tearer) had an impact on that judgment. Said to bring destruction through their fiery tempers, immense size, and magical abilities, dragons are allegedly accountable for many tragedies at sea and on land.
With power over fire, rain, and the earth, as well as enemy of the sun and moon, dragons have strong ties to each of the elements. In China, four main Dragon-like beings or Lun-Wang dragons were believed to live in a Crystal Palace in one of the universal seas. Thought to bring rain, even flooding upon the land by both the Chinese and the Norse, many myths represent the dragon near water and forested areas. In both Eastern and Western mythology, the dragon is believed to be responsible for eclipses.
The dragons have been noted as the king of bringing out the worst in humankinds nature, in particular greed. Dragons are known for hoarding wealth and often will capture a beautiful maiden.
In Greek mythology, the dragon protects the spring of Ares (god of war). The first emperor of China, Shi Huangdi, took the dragon as an emblem of his power. Some believed dragons to be the ancestors of ancient emperors.
These are but a few of the hundreds of mythological sightings and significations of the dragon tattoo design.
In short, dragons never die. They live on in our myths from one culture and generation to the next, leaving intrigue in their wake. From the underwater Loch Ness Monster to the serpentine entity Charlie, spotted from time to time in the Payette Lakes of North Idaho, there continue to be hundreds of miscellaneous sightings of strange dragon-like creatures throughout the world. Real or imagined, there is no denying their impact!
The choice for a dragon tattoo makes a particularly powerful personal statement, and the choices in design are rich with diversity. Whether depicted in black and white or boldly emblazoned with color, the dragon tattoo can serve as guardian or destroyer and will likely never lose appeal.

Tattoos For Girls Aren't Always
Girly Any More
TimCroy
Feminist thinking is an issue of which both conservatives and liberals are aware.
Today, women have begun the process of challenging roles from which they have long been excluded. An excellent example of this has occurred in tattoo parlors, where tattoos for girls have changed dramatically.
You've probably seen a lot of movies, pictures, television shows, or magazine advertisements that feature women with tattoos.
These tattoos are probably on the lower back, ankle, or hip. They definitely make the women who wear them look sexy. These tattoos are probably of a butterfly, flower, or similar object.
They're sexy, they attract men, and they're not something that you're going to get tired of looking at. For many girls, these tattoos are great choices. They may reflect a feminine personality, and they're probably not going to attract too much unwanted attention.
Consider your favorite pastimes. Perhaps you really enjoy sports, and want to work something related into your design. Your favorite quote could become the center of a design as well. If you want these designs to look more feminine, you can always have them embellished with ornate flowers or vines.
Just because you're a girl doesn't mean that you've got to get tattooed like most people think girls "should" be tattooed.
If you've got great arms and want to show them off, by all means, get your tattoo there! If you love your legs and want to draw people's eyes to them, ink those babies! Your whole body is your canvas.
Look through examples of tattoos other people have received. Consider asking friends or colleagues where they found their ideas. Search through the internet, or browse the galleries at a nearby tattoo parlor for ideas.
Do you have a favorite movie? Watching it again might give you an idea for the perfect design. If you have a favorite song, or a favorite band, consider some of the lyrics. Maybe this will give you an idea for the perfect tattoo.
YOU get to choose exactly what art to feature on your body. YOU get to choose where it goes. Remember, tattoos for girls can be girly - or not - it's YOUR choice.

In an era where simple tattoos have become passé and the more adventurous have turned to scarification, implants, and even surgery to expand their physical horizons, filmmakers Greg Jacobson and Jason Gary take an unflinching look at the most extreme body modifications ever attempted. In addition to speaking with thirty unique individuals who have altered their external appearances in order to better express themselves, Jacobson and Gary also conduct interviews with the pioneering artists, surgeons, cutters, tattooists, and body artists who made these extreme modifications a reality. With more than fifty body modification procedures including tanning, waxing, bodybuilding, tattooing, elective amputations, tongue splitting, trans-gender surgeries, and everything in between captured on camera, Modify may horrify, but it may also open your mind in ways you never thought possible. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Tribal Tattoos
A Modern Twist on a Primitive Art
Its no wonder that tribal tattoo designs have become so popular in todays culture. In fact, the art has been practiced and handed down for thousands of years. For this reason, its highly likely that a great many of the tattoos youll see today will have a tribal slant to them. The majority of tribal tattoos are created using a black ink and your natural skin tone to create intricate designs, patterns and pictures.
Some popular designs include:
However, modern tribal tattoo art doesn't have to limit itself to ancient or primitive designs. Its just as easy to find tribal fairy tattoo designs, tribal skull tattoo designs, tribal angel tattoo designs and tribal barbed wire designs.
Why are Tribal Designs so Popular?
The popularity of tribal tattoos lies in the meaning behind them. In ancient times, tattoos were used for two primary reasons: to mark a person as a member (or nonmember) of the local group or to express religious, magical or spiritual beliefs and convictions. Those same reasons a prompting more and more men and women to seek out tribal art tattoos.
The appeal lies in the fact that having this tribal art, regardless of the symbol or the country of origin, is that it helps us to reinforce our positive feelings about ourselves, and allows us to connect in some way to an element of mysterious ancient activity. By simply limiting the number of colors you use and the way your lines are drawn and suddenly, a simple dragon, butterfly or eagle has transformed itself into a totem to be worn proudly and permanently.
A Brief History of the Tribal Tattoo Art
The widely popular tribal style of today can be traced back to the Pacific Rim and Southeast Asia. Even the word tattoo is said to have derived from that area. Polynesians used the word tatao meaning to tap. Tahitians used the word tatu, which means to mark something. Tattoo, the word most commonly used today, was said to have been penned by Caption Cook when he explored those same areas.
It is rumored that this ancient style of tattooing found its way into America and popular culture when Ed Hardy (a leading tattoo artist from the San Francisco area) loaned a notebook to the Los Angeles artist, Leo Zulueta. From then on, its, well history! The work featured in the notebook was based on the work of the Dyak people of Borneo. Now, though, tribal tattoo designs include any number of styles including: Native Indian, North American Native American, Pacific Northwest American Indian, African, Egyptian, Mayan, Aztec, Hawaiian, Samoan, Maori (who popularized tribal facial tattooing), Japanese, Chinese, Hindu, Polynesian, Inuit, Pagan, Oriental, Aboriginal, Magical, Celtic, and Astrological.
The Final Destination for Your Tribal Design
Fortunately for tribal art enthusiasts, there is hardly any place where a tribal tattoo CAN'T go!
Probably the most popular of all is the armband, be they flames, barbed wire or intricate knot work. Tribal suns are great for chests and shoulders. There are tons of tribal designs that are ideal circling places like navels and nipples. There is also some really amazing tribal art designed for the upper back, and some very seductive pieces fashioned to adorn the lower back or tailbone area.
The fact remains that when it comes to tribal tattooing, it can work for anyone - male or female, young or old.
All you need is a little creativity and a great design!!

Maori Tattoos
The Maori tattoo artists were sacred members of the tribe - But why?
Well, in the Maori culture, the head (and face) was regarded as the most sacred of all body parts.
Add to that fact that in the process of administering a tattoo, the artist would cause their blood to run freely, and it isn't hard to understand what gave these artists their nearly "untouchable" status.
It was the duty of the tohunga-ta-oko to tattoo all of the high ranking members of the tribe. In fact, they tattooed most of the tribe's population, men and women included. Maori members without their signature markings were seen as people without social status, below even the ranks of poor.
In the tribe of the Maori people, tattooing began at about the same time that puberty sat it.
Being sacred, the act of getting a tattoo was also enmeshed with many religious rites and rituals. In the hierarchy of the people, tattoos bore a two-fold purpose. First, tattoos were sought after to make warriors more attractive to the women of the tribe. Secondly, tattoos served as markers for rites of passage and other monumental moments throughout the lives of the warriors and even their mates.
To receive a facial tattoo in the Maori culture, there were some special rules.
A big part of the process was abstaining not only from solid foods, but also from sexual intercourse or intimacy. The first part, abstaining from solid foods, played a dual role. Not only did this period of near-fasting better prepare the soul for the infliction of the tattoo, but it also served to prevent both contamination and disease of the tattooed.
Facial tattoos were painful and required time to heal.
To keep the wounds clean and the warrior strong, liquid food were served to the bearer of the new facial tattoo through a wooden funnel. Through it, liquefied foods and water were served to the proud but pained recipient. The second part, abstaining from sexual intercourse was primarily to prepare the soul, but may have also been a preventative measure against contamination, infection and disease.
The process of the facial tattoos of the Maori wasn't as complicated as you may think.
To begin, the tohunga-ta-oko would etch deep cuts into the skin of the face. Then, a chisel would be dipped into a sooty pigment. Ingredients of the pigment included things like burnt tree gums, plants and even insects and creatures. This pigment dipped chisel would then be tapped onto (and into) the open wounds.
As simple as it sounds on paper, it was a long and incredibly painful process that no man could ever hope to avoid, at least not with any dignity or hope for his future. But, regardless of how painful the process was, the entire tribe worked together to get the warrior healed and well.
To do this, they might provide him with leaves from the local Karaka tree, which were known for their ability to hasten along the healing process. Also, flute music and chanting of poems were relied upon to help ease the pain. But, as kind as all of this may sound, it wasn't all done selflessly. The Maori people were strong warriors with enemies constantly lurking. To keep the tribe safe and sound, they relied on every single warrior to be at his peak strength in the event of a battle.
Women were also offered these same respites from the pain of their tattoos, although they weren't tattooed to the same extreme as their male counterparts. Some of the most popular tattoos among the Maori women included a dark-blue tattoo lining their upper lips and tattoos on their chins. In addition, they continued in the process of body modification by having their nostrils incised.
Today, the body art we witness and call Maori are really just an American translation of this New Zealand art.
Instead of chisels, we have electric guns. Instead of harvesting natural pigments, tattoo artists seek out a distributor. We don't get them in puberty, but as we've already entered into adulthood.
But the myth and the meaning are still there for all who are tattooed, whether on backs or on faces, with tribal or contemporary designs. And, as many enthusiasts can tell you, the art of tattoo is still quite tapu only you can feel free to touch them without pain of death!

The Allure of Foot Tattoos
Tracey M. Sanders
Tattoos in this day and age differ in style and placement.
That's why tattoos are considered as one of the best ways to express your individuality. You ultimately decide exactly what kind of tattoo you want and where you want to get it. Thus, what may be the best style and placement of tattoos for you may not be the best for other people. Don't feel bad if you still aren't really sure if you know exactly where you want to get your tattoo inked onto your body. Foot tattoos are very popular and one type of tattoo you may want to consider.
Here are some facts about foot tattoos
The skin on the foot is nearer to the bone. The closer the skin is to the bone the more agonizing the tattoo will be because foot tattoos have a tendency to be smaller you will not endure the agony for so long as you would with a bigger tattoo.
You will work a pro job or hope to have one someday. Tattoos are not generally considered pro looking. If you get a foot tattoo, and at last get a pro job it'll be easy to hide.
However, you should be aware that while healing it is strongly advised that the entire time the tattoo is healing that you wear open shoes. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for a foot tattoo to heal. If it is absolutely required that you wear shoes, then you should wear 2 pair of light socks.
Views change on what sorts of tattoos look brilliant on other people. Even people who usually don't love tattoos on other people don't appear to mind foot tattoos and even consider them horny.
This is because as the tattoo on your foot is typically exposed to crueler conditions than if you got the tattoo someplace else on your body. After a little time the ink on your foot tattoo will spread out and make the tattoo look indistinct.
Star designs, words, and flowers.
However, you can work with your tattoo artist to create something interesting and different, if you don't want to go with any of these common types of foot tattoos.
Just remember the larger and more complex the tattoo the more painful the tattoo will probably be, and the more expensive.

Koi Fish Tattoos
Koi (more specifically, ''nishikigoi'') are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp. The word ''"koi"'' comes from Japanese, simply means ''"carp."'' It includes both the dull grey fish and the brightly colored varieties. The common carp is widely believed to have originated from the Caspian Sea with natural habitat surrounding the North, Baltic, Mediterranean, Black, Azov, Caspian and Aral Sea basins. The common carp, as a food fish with the ability to survive and adapt to many different climates and waterways, was bartered and spread to many different areas, including North America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Koi breeding originated in 18th century Japan. Farmers working the rice fields would notice that some carp were more brightly colored the other ones, capture them, and raise them. The outside world did not become aware of the degree of development until 1914, when the koi were exhibited in the annual exposition in Tokyo. At that point, interest in koi exploded throughout Japan. The hobby of keeping koi spread worldwide after plastic bags and shipping of koi became both fast and safe for the fish. These factors enabled Koi to be shipped worldwide with low mortality rates. Koi are now commonly sold in most pet stores, with higher-quality fish available from specialist dealers.
Koi can live for decades. One famous scarlet koi, named "Hanako" was owned by several individuals and was reportedly 226 years old upon her death. Her age was determined by removing one of her scales and examining it extensively in 1966. She is the longest-lived koi fish ever recorded.
In Japan and China, the koi has long been a symbol of masculinity and strength. Legends tell of it leaping up the falls at Dragon Gate on the Yellow River in China. In the process, it transformed into a dragon, proof of its successful struggle against the long odds. If caught, the koi is said to await the cutting knife without a quiver, in the manner of the Samurai warrior facing the sword. In Buddhism, the koi represents fearlessness and courage on its journey through the ocean, a reminder of human suffering through our own life's journey.
In Japan, the koi would appear on a young man's forearm or leg. As he continued his life's journey, he might eventually earn a dragon for his final back piece, echoing the legend of the leaping koi transforming into a dragon at Dragon Gate. Coloring, whiskers, scaling and special marks represent a range of qualities a young man might wish for in his life. For personal greatness and national pride, a white koi with a single red spot on the head would be the chosen design.

Enigma
There are many people who have tattoos in the world, but none of them are as famous as Enigma. Enigma is one of the most famous tattooed people in the world due to his extensive and creative tattoo work. He is a sideshow performer, an actor and a musician. An interesting character, he has undergone extensive tattoo work on all areas of his body. The Enigma was born as Paul Lawrence. His current jobs as a musician, an actor and a sideshow performer are all likely due to the interest he gains when people realize the extent of the body modification he has experienced. His body modification includes horn implants, the reshaping of his ears, multiple piercings all over his body and his famous jigsaw-puzzle tattoo which covers his entire body. These things all work together to make him a member of the Freak subculture, which is consequently not an insult. In fact, the more outrageous the modification or tattoo, the higher the Freak status.
While many other people get traditional tattoos like snake tattoos, butterfly tattoos and fairy tattoos, it seems The Enigma is more interested in standing out from the crowd. The Enigma started to get his tattoos on December 20, 1992. This was the first day he sat for a tattoo, starting his famous climb up the entertainment ladder. The artist he chose to work with was Katzen the Tiger Lady. The two later married and continue to share a love for tattoos. Katzen the Tiger Lady is a woman who is heavily tattooed herself, thus she fully appreciates Enigma's unique appearance. She created the first of his tattoos, but by no means did all of them. Currently, there have been more than two hundred tattoo artists who have worked on Enigma. In fact, he has ahad s many as 23 artists working on him at one time.
Enigma was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. His first love is music which he began to study when he was six years old. In 1991, he became one of the founding members of the Jim Rose Circus. He toured with the circus as a founding member until he left the show in 1998. Afterwards, Enigma toured with Katzen. During their tour he played music and did sideshow performances as well, under the name "Human Marvels". They drew large audiences who were drawn to their interesting looks and lifestyle. A few years later, the Enigma and Katzen had a daughter. They named the little girl Caitlin. However, they ultimately went through a divorce. Caitlin currently lives with Connie, Katzen's mother.
The Enigma is best known for being in the public eye and for his numerous performances. Perhaps his most famous was an appearance on The X Files, as a character called The Conundrum. The episode in which he appeared was entitled Humbug. His appearance in this particular episode led to a toy called The Conundrum being created and placed into the X Files PALz action figure line available at many toy stores. The Enigma was also featured in a documentary film called Freaky Circus Guy. Others featured in the film include Katzen, Danielle D'Meux and William Darke. The Engima also appeared with Katzen and several others in a film by Steve Balderson called Firecracker in 2005. Penn & Teller also featured Enigma in an episode called Fountain of Youth. The Enigma has also appeared in other things including the music video Fallen Leaves by Billy Talent. He's been on the game show Identity, appearing as a stranger. One of his latest television appearances was on The Gong Show With Dave Attell. The Enigma also makes a habit of appearing at various haunted house attractions all over North America. One of his most famous appearances was at Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, Florida. At these appearances, he is often shown as a monster or as a freak of nature, with his tattoos, piercings and body formations being highlighted. He can certainly make any mediocre haunted house into an entertaining and horrific affair, just by being himself and being present at the event. Those who love ghouls and ghosts love The Enigma's daring attitude toward life and body modification. He is a celebrity to everyone he comes in contact with. Overall, The Enigma is one of the most interesting and unique people on the face of the planet. He will likely continue to be seen on film, television and at various events around the world for many years to come.

As Chinese Symbol Tattoos grow in popularity so do the mistakes made in the placement of the lines in the symbols.
That's why it is very important to be determined to find just the right design and to be absolutely sure that the placement of the lines is correct.
When a Chinese Symbol tattoo doesn't have the right placement or amount of lines in the design or is inked backwards it can change the entire meaning of the symbols. Japanese Tattoo Designs
Using the Symbol for Strength
Emily Kato
You may be attracted to Japanese characters but find it really hard to choose one and only one symbol for your tattoo. There are countless characters to select from, it is worth taking the time to look into and understand all of the choices. Unlike English, where there are a limited number of letters in the alphabet, the Japanese alphabets offer a vast number of symbols to pick from. There are a number of tattoo designs that are always seem to be popular One of the most trendy Japanese symbols is always the character for strength. This article will tell you more about this Japanese character and popular Japanese tattoo symbol.
Strength is just about always written in Kanji when it is used as a tattoo symbol. If you have not studied Japanese, you may not be aware that there are three Japanese alphabets. The names of the three Japanese alphabets are hiragana, katakana and kanji.
Although it is possible to write the word Strength in all of the alphabets, most people will want to write it in Kanji. Kanji is usually used for concepts and Katakana is usually used for Names and foreign words. Kanji is the word in Japanese that is used to refer to Chinese characters. These characters were brought to Japan originally from China and then simplified for use in Japan.
The Japanese symbol for strength is written with only two strokes or lines. Some characters can be much more complex and made up of many strokes, so the character for strength is one of the simplest characters to learn and draw. When you see it, it may remind you of an arm muscle bulging with strength. 'Chikara' is the Japanese word for strength. To pronounce it sound it out phonetically as Chi-Ka-Ra.
Tattoos that have something to do with family are also among the most popular characters. These include father, mother, daughter, sister and brother. If you have looked at all of the Japanese symbols related to family and still can't make a decision, then you could always go for a universally popular character, the character for Love. In Japanese the word for Love is 'ai' and is only one character of 13 strokes, which makes it a good choice if you are looking for a symbol with a strong meaning in one character.

Celtic Knotwork Tattoos
History and Significance in Modern Tattoo Design
Celtic knotwork tattoos are extremely popular and highly symbolic, and have been for many years. These highly ornamental styles of tattoo are very common in a wide variety of images and patterns, and many people enjoy customizing Celtic knotwork to fit their own ideas and tattoo designs. Celtic knotwork originated as a metalworking technique hundreds and hundreds of years ago, and it originally became popular in Roman times when Celtic druids were used as tutors and companions for the children of the Roman aristocracy. The beautiful and elaborate knots which have no beginning and no end were used to decorate jewelry, shields and weapons. The elaborate knots and spirals created two levels of artwork: an image that was evident from far away, and an intricate craftsmanship that beguiled the eye and drew appreciation from viewers from close up.
In tattoo design, Celtic knotwork serves a variety of functions:
Many artists will customize an image by turning it into a Celtic knot.
While a clover tattoo or a leopard tattoo is interesting and fun for many people, if you want to add an additional dimension to your tattoo and potentially give a nod to Celtic (Irish, Scottish or Welsh) heritage, then you might have your tattoo turned into a Celtic knotwork design. These tattoos are usually custom made, but if you want to get ideas for some images that are popularly turned into knotwork, then you might look online for images like clover tattoos, cat tattoos, horse tattoos and cross tattoos.
Celtic knots make great frames for portrait and memorial tattoos.
If you want to really set off a portrait tattoo or any other tattoo that is particularly special to you, then framing it with an intricate Celtic knot may be the ideal way to show off your tattoo design. Celtic knot frames are usually fairly simple (as far as Celtic knots go) and, as is traditional, have no beginning and no end. These frames can be thin and simple or very thick and complex. They are sometimes adorned with botanical imagery like thistles or clover in addition to the knotwork itself.
Celtic knotwork is a popular background.
If you have several tattoos fairly close to one another and are considering turning them into a sleeve, then remember to include Celtic knotwork as a potential background when you are envisioning your tattoo design. While probably the most popular background for sleeves are Japanese tattoo style clouds, Celtic knotwork can be highly stylized to create a beautiful background for your sleeve that also indicates your appreciation for Celtic culture or reminds you of your Celtic heritage.
While Celtic knotwork is probably the most popular form of Celtic art in tattooing, there are also a number of related designs that also appear in conjunction with classic Celtic knots. These often are similar to the style of knotwork adopted by the Vikings, who transformed Celtic knotwork to suit their own preferences by creating a style known as interlace, which is much simpler and has a beginning and end. In interlace tattoos, the ends of the strands tend to be the feet, tails and heads of animals. This is called animal interlace and is very popular in animal tattoo designs. Any custom tattoo artist can transform a pattern into animal interlace, but since most tattoo artists do not specialize in this form of tattoo design, it may be better for the authenticity of your tattoo to locate a specialist and purchase a stencil of your desired Celtic knotwork tattoo or animal interlace tattoo directly from the expert.
Celtic tattoos are popular on a symbolic level as well as an aesthetic one. Because the loops have no beginning and no end, they are often used to indicate the permanence of love and the cycle - or circle - of life. They are also popular when it comes to religious tattoos because Celtic cross tattoos indicate the limitless nature of God's love for His creation and also the unending mercy that God shows in the Bible for those who believe in Him. Even people who are not particularly spiritual enjoy these images because of the incredible depth of history in Celtic cross tattoos and the intense emotions that these images evoke. Whether you are simply appreciative of the artisanship that went into Celtic knotwork and goes into the design of Celtic knot tattoos or if you find religious significance in Celtic knot tattoos as well, these Celtic knot tattoo designs can help you find the perfect tattoo for you.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Most folks who are considering removing an unwanted tattoo have a number of questions about the method. They could have had a mate who successfully removed a tattoo and they need to know how it would work in their own unique case. Or, they could have thought about tattoo erasure many years ago and they need to discover what technology is being used now by tattoo removal hospitals to make it easier and less expensive.
Tattoo erasure experts who have completed thousand of laser treatments have heard almost every question you can imagine about tattoo erasure. A large majority of tattoos can be removed. Black ink tattoos are the most common that are removed in, and they're also among the best to get rid of. A large range of other colors can be removed as well - red, orange, yellow, darker green, blue, brown, purple, and colors in between. The hardest colors to get rid of are light green and blue / green or teal or turquoise. These colors can be faded, but it is difficult to remove them fully. Call a clinic specializing in tattoo removal in Dallas to learn more about what colors are straightforward or hard to remove. As we enter the second decade of the 21st Century we will look backwards on all of the technological, social and medical advancements made in the last ten years. For those who suffer from tattoo regret one area of advancement that they can thank medical science and ingenuity for is new and better methods to lower the price of tattoo erasure.
Tattoos have been around since man first learned the simplest way to control and use fire to boost the human condition on Earth, but it was not till the prior century that types of tattoo removing started to make great steps in effectiveness without leaving harsh scar tissue. Prior to the late 20th Century, to endure a tattoo removal procedure someone had to endure a process that might be painful and only partly effective. As tattoos became the fashion in the 1990's more time, effort and money was dedicated to finding new strategies and refining and enhancing the techniques that were already in existence.
Along with an increase in the popularity of tattoos there developed a rise in what's now referred to as tattoo regret. This added pressure to find an easy, effective and affordable methodology of tattoo removal grew the size of the tattoo removal industry and with that a rise in research and development spending to find the ideal tattoo removal product. Most of the products were of the home tattoo removal variety. Some, like TCA, worked well to small fanfare, while others promised the moon and delivered tiny to nothing as a tattoo removing agent, but were, and are still highly promoted as painless, convenient and trouble-free cream removal systems. People get tattoos for any reason, and sometimes for no reason. We get tattoos express your love, to express one's own self, as a fan or admirer of some idol, under peer pressure, to be up with the Jones' or maybe just because it's hip to get one.
Whatever the truth is, many folks in grown up life end up regretting this young adventure. It may be because the tattoo reminds you of a broken love relationship or could be that visible tattoo is coming in your way of getting good job or joining a coveted university. In other words, you desperately need to get it out of your way, but the memory of the painful procedure you went through to get it done gives you cold feet.
There are a few tactics an individual can undo a tattoo or at least make it less obvious. All, barring one, are terribly painful and ham-fisted. But before debating techniques to remove tattoos, let's first understand what a tattoo is. A tattoo, or dermal pigmentation, as the term self explains is a mark made on the skin by inserting pigment into the skin. It is accomplished by injecting this pigment into tiny deep holes made in the skin. Tattoos made this way are relatively permanent.
Aside from permanent tattoos there also are non-permanent tattoos. They are more like body sticker, similar to a decal. Transfer tattoos are made on the skin by transferring the design on the skin, rather than inside the skin, using water. Temporary tattoos are waterproof, but can be removed with oil-based creams, and are planned to last just a few days.

Tattoo Inks Types and Methods
Not All Tattoo Inks Are Created Equally!!
If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, you may not have put a whole lot of thought into the type of ink that you will be using to permanently mark your body with a unique piece of self expression that will last a lifetime. It is probably not nearly as important a consideration for you as what to get tattooed on your body, where to get your tattoo and who will be inking your tattoo design. However, it does pay to know a little bit about tattoo inks and the advantages and disadvantages of certain forms of tattoo ink in order to get the best tattoo for you and also so that you understand exactly what getting a tattoo entails. Professional tattoo artists are generally restricted to FDA-regulated inks, so you do not have to worry about your safety when you are getting tattooed as long as you pick a tattoo parlor that is sanitary and abides by legal requirements, but you may enjoy the experience more knowing a little more about your inking options.
Most tattoo inks are made of carbon based pigments. They are regulated by the FDA, and they are colored using a variety of natural and manmade components that make the colors stay in one place under the skin and, to the extent possible, prevent fading, running and blurring over time. These inks are non-toxic, but they are also restricted to epidermal (skin level) use since they are not meant to be injected into the body but rather to remain just below the surface of the skin. For this reason, you should always get tattooed by a professional tattoo artist using professional grade equipment rather than with homemade guns that may be somewhat ramshackle and unpredictable. Carbon based tattoo inks are generally used for artistic tattoos and they create beautiful and striking tattoo designs like butterfly tattoos and other lifelike images.
If you are considering cosmetic tattooing, such as permanent lipstick, eyeliner or blush, then your tattoo artist - who may also be a cosmetic surgeon - will likely use an inorganic dye based in compounds like titanium dioxide or iron oxide. These dyes are extremely permanent and are used for very fine work such as eyeliner or lip liner. These compounds are also found in many high quality mineral makeup products. This type of tattooing is, in many ways, completely different from artistic tattoos that are based on vivid colors and beautiful imagery. Because color is less of an issue, but permanence and total lack of "motion" in the tattoo are more of an issue with cosmetic tattooing than any other form of tattoo art, these inorganic compounds are used in very small amounts to make the cosmetic tattoos as natural, beautiful and unchanging as possible.
Another type of tattoo ink uses azo compounds, which are nitrogen based and often found in artists' paints. They are also used as dyes. These compounds are less common and while they are not strictly prohibited by the FDA, not many tattoo artists use them because they have not been as extensively researched as the carbon based pigments. Another interesting but not particularly common tattoo ink are "Chameleon Tattoo inks," which are black light sensitive and only appear when they are exposed to a black light. These inks can be used to create entire "invisible" tattoo designs or to supplement a more traditional tattoo with an intriguing glow. They are very popular for supplementing images like lizard tattoos and other animal tattoos that can be easily accented. However, these dyes also are somewhat controversial since they have not been on the market on a wide scale for very long, and some users report that the inks "spread" and blur relatively quickly, leaving a black light sensitive smear on the skin rather than a surprising design.
Finally, there are completely unconventional tattoo dyes, such as those used in prison tattoos. These can be made of anything from ashes or clay, such as indigenous tribes have been using for thousands of years, but are more often made of ink from pens or even melted checkers. These inks are very risky because they cannot be sterilized and also can easily lead to major infections at the tattoo sites. Furthermore, these types of tattoos are very perilous because they often are performed using shared needles or makeshift needles that also are not sterilized and can quickly spread diseases and infections like hepatitis among an entire prison population.
If you visit a professional tattoo parlor to get a tattoo, then you can ask about their tattoo inks and will likely find that they are highly regulated both by the artists themselves and the legal system. Most shops follow a rigid code of ethics when it comes to tattoo inks, and will only tattoo with the most time-tested and researched forms of tattoo inks. If you are looking for a more experimental type of tattoo, you will not only need to research the tattoo parlor doing your tattoo much more carefully, but the burden of researching the ink will also be on your shoulders as unproven inks are not popular with mainstream artists. Work with your tattoo artist and even a doctor, scientist or other researcher to make sure that if you choose to use an unconventional tattoo ink, you are fully aware of the ramifications of doing so.

Tattoo Needles
Understanding How and Why They Work
Tattoo needles are designed to puncture the upper layers of the skin and force colored ink under and into the skin. Once the mild wound heals, the ink remains trapped beneath the surface of the skin and becomes your permanent tattoo design. Most people understand this part of the tattooing process, but few actually stop to think about how tattoo needles themselves work. The process and design are very interesting to consider, and can give you a greater appreciation for the workmanship and skill of tattoo artists and technicians.
Tattoo needles are long, thin needles that are propelled up and down very quickly by a machine. They come in various diameters to allow heavy insertion of ink or lighter flow of ink into the tattoo design area. Historically, grouping and soldering tattoo needles together was a vital skill for any tattoo artist. This is because tattoo needle arrangements were constructed entirely by hand. Tattoo apprentices learned this skill early, then were responsible for creating needles and needle configurations for the entire tattoo studio. However, now tattoo needles are generally bought preassembled from suppliers, and many tattoo artists do not know how to make their own needles.
Different needle groupings are used for different purposes. A single needle can be used for extremely fine detail work, and for really fine lining. Liners, which are needle groups used to outline areas of the tattoos, are generally grouped in arrangements of three needles or five needles in a circular formation. The more needles in a liner, the thicker the line and the more ink that will be pushed into the skin. Tattoo artists use different formations for shading. Flat needle arrangements stack the needles directly on top of each other in groups of two or three. Magnum, or mag, needle arrangements are more staggered, and the ink flows more evenly in this type of arrangement.
The needle groups are all soldered to a single bar, called a needle bar. This bar can be attached to the tattoo gun, and it is this bar that regulates the movement of the needles up and down. In order to get ink into the skin instead of just punching tiny holes in it, the needles must be dipped in the tattoo ink, then applied to the skin. As the needles puncture the skin, the tattoo ink runs down the needles into the skin and is forced in by the very fast, highly repetitive punching motion. The needles must be periodically re-dipped to continue to apply color. Because the ink is not actually coming out of the needles, they do not need to be changed when the color is changed. They can simply be rinsed in a small cup of water to remove all the ink of one color from the needles. Then, the artist can continue with the same needle grouping and a different color.
Tattoo needles should not be reused on different people without intense autoclave sterilization. Never use a tattoo needle that someone else has just finished using. Many tattoo studios use disposable needles to make sure that there is no cross contamination.

Wolf Tattoos
The wolf (also known as the grey wolf, the gray wolf or the timber wolf) is the largest wild member of the Canideae family and an ice age survivor that originated around 300,000 years ago. Some DNA studies have found that the wolf may be an ancestor of the domestic dog. The wolf is very adaptable and can thrive in areas as diverse from the mountains to deserts to the urban areas. However, due to the loss of its natural habitats, the wolf's numbers are dwindling. Today, wolves are protected animals in some areas, but hunted for sport or extermination in others.
Wolves figure prominently in folklore. Many Chinese proverbs use the term "wolf" to describe any malicious person with a hidden agenda. "Wolf hearted" is used to describe someone who is so bad, they are impossible to tame. "Wolf heart; dog lungs" refers to an ungrateful person who later betrays someone who previously helped them. The Christian Bible contains 13 references to wolves, usually as metaphors for greed and destructiveness. Jesus uses wolves to describe the dangers his followers would face should they follow him. The phrase "Wolf in sheep's clothing" refers to someone who seems benign but is really a danger.
In the medieval Russian folktale Ivan Tsarevich and the Grey Wolf, the grey wolf is a benevolent character who uses his knowledge and magical powers to assist Ivan on his quest. In Japan, grain farmers once worshiped wolves at shrines, leaving food near their dens in hopes that they would protect their crops from wild boar and deer. Talismans and charms with wolf images were used to protect against fire, disease and other dangers. The Roman God of War, Mars held the wolf sacred and to spot one before a battle was an omen of victory.
Wolves also play a large part in some Native American tribes. In the Cardinal directions of the Plains Indians, the wolf represented the west, while for the Pawnee, it represented the southeast. According to the Pawnee creation myth, the wolf was the first creature to experience death. The Wolf Star (Sirius), enraged at not having been invited to attend a council on how the Earth should be made, sent a wolf to steal the whirlwind bag of The Storm that Comes out of the West, which contained the first humans. Upon being freed from the bag, the humans killed the wolf, thus bringing death into the world. The Pawnee, being both an agricultural and hunting people, associated the wolf with both corn and the bison; the "birth" and "death" of the Wolf Star was to them a reflection of the wolf's coming and going down the path of the Milky Way known as Wolf Road. Wolves however were not always portrayed positively in Native American cultures. The Netsilik Inuit and Takanaluk-arnaluk believed that the sea-woman Nuliayuk's home was guarded by wolves. The Naskapi's believed that the caribou afterlife is guarded by giant wolves, which kill careless hunters venturing too near. The Navajo people feared witches in wolf's clothing called "Mai-cob".
Wolf tattoos can symbolize many things, depending on the culture and intent of the tattoo wearer. Just as Christ was the Good Shepherd, the wolf can represent Satan. It can also represent ferocity, cunning, stealth, and cruelty. The pack nature of the wolf gives it an association with loyalty, courage, fidelity and victory. Wolves are also associated with shape-shifting, fear of the night or darkness, as well as the shadow world. Wolf elements are often found in Native American themed tattoos.

Camouflage and Cosmetic Tattooing
Permanent Makeup
While the popularity of tattooing for decoration and adornment has done nothing but escalate over the years, cosmetic tattooing has waxed and waned in the public eye. Cosmetic tattooing differs from the more traditional, artistic tattooing techniques in that in order to tattoo cosmetically, you need a deep understanding not only of the mechanics of tattooing and the tattoo process, but you also need to understand how tattoo inks interact with different skin types and skin tones, as well as how different colors of ink will appear on the skin. Really good cosmetic tattoo artists understand that there is a level of artistry to applying even the simplest cosmetic tattoo, since they need to have depth even though they are generally simpler in color than more traditional tattoos.
Cosmetic tattooing historically has been used to make lips appear fuller, to apply permanent makeup that will not wear or wash off, and to give eyes a larger, more luminous look. Some cosmetic tattoo artists even claim to be able to cover or "fill in" scarred areas so that it is no longer obvious that you have had an injury in an area. (note: scar tissues do not accept tattoo inks in a predictable fashion, and you cannot every be one hundred percent certain that a scar will hold ink or that it will hold the lines of a tattoo properly. Many people use tattoos to cover scars each year, but you must be aware of the way that the scar will interact with the tattoo and also you should work with an artist who is comfortable tattooing scar tissue. Another popular way to use cosmetic tattooing is in the form of replacing lost hair or camouflaging temporary or permanent hair loss.
People can lose their hair for a variety of reasons. Cosmetic hair replacement tattoos are most often used to fill in eyebrow areas. You can lose your eyebrow hair from chemotherapy, over-plucking, or skin conditions like alopecia, which can cause hair loss on the head and other parts of the body. Whether your hair loss is temporary or permanent, cosmetic tattooing can provide an ideal solution for your eyebrow area. Cosmetic tattoos in the eye brow area are designed to look like real brows, and they are comprised of tiny lines that are designed to look like carefully plucked and sculpted arches. You can have your entire eyebrow tattooed, or you can just have thinning areas filled in to give you more dramatic eyebrow lines. Either way, you will enjoy the look of perfectly groomed eyebrows that you get every morning as soon as you get out of bed.
If you are balding, there are also tattoo solutions available. One type of tattoo hair loss solution is called cosmetic camouflaging. This technique uses a computer to analyze your hair pattern and design a tattoo for your scalp that matches the way that the hair already grows. This is a great way to mask balding areas or thinning areas of hair. The computer designs the tattoo pattern, then stencils the pattern onto the scalp. Once the stencil is in place, a tattoo artist can tattoo your new hair onto your head, giving the illusion of thicker hair. This technique works best if you have thin hair or a bald patch, but will not really work if you do not have any hair at all. The technique of filling in thinning areas on the head with a tattooed design actually dates back to roman times, when men would tattoo their scalps to try to cover up thinning areas. If you have used another resource to stop the progression of your hair loss, then this can be a good way to get your old look back. However, it will not ultimately prevent the loss of the rest of your hair. Some fully bald men do get their heads tattooed to give the illusion of an extremely short buzz cut, but this look is questionable at best, and will probably not fool anyone who comes close to you.
Many people hesitate to tattoo their heads because it seems like this would hurt a great deal. However, in reality, while tattooing your face can be quite painful, tattooing your head itself is not because the skin on the scalp is so thick. As a result, it is much less sensitive and hurts far less than most people expect. If you are interested in hair loss tattoo solutions, you should consult a dermatologist and a hair loss expert to determine if a permanent camouflage will solve your problem, or if it will just look silly when you lose the rest of your hair.
A Comprehensive Overview of Cosmetic Tattoos
Cosmetic Tattooing Results
The results of cosmetic tattoos can greatly depend on both the skill of the tattoo artist and the quality of the ink. Permanent makeup is a very precise form of tattooing that has little room for error, especially where facial cosmetics are concerned. This should be viewed as one of the most crucial tattoo choices, far more serious than a decorative tattoo that is easily hidden by clothing.
Those who choose to go ahead with permanent makeup should be aware of the possible need for retouching. In fact, many permanent makeup procedures require more than one visit to achieve the best shade and shape. Eyebrow tattoos, for instance, should be applied lightly at first, as it is easier to go darker from there if needed.
It should also be understood that permanent makeup will fade over time, although the severity of the fading depends on a few factors. The tattoo must be cared for properly during the healing period in order to ensure the best results. Also, areas that are exposed to sunlight are more susceptible to fading. This usually includes facial cosmetic tattoos and any other parts of the body that are regularly exposed. Tattoo inks that are lighter in color will fade the quickest.
Typically, those who are happy with their cosmetic tattoo results will be comfortable with the idea of retouches. Major fading shouldn t happen for years, if the cosmetic tattoo is cared for properly. Eyebrow tattoos and eyelid tattoos, for instance, can sometimes last up to a decade before reapplication is needed. Other areas of the body, however, may never need retouching.
Choosing a Cosmetic Tattoo Artist
This is the most vital step in the decision to get a cosmetic tattoo. Although there are tattoo removal procedures, they aren t always completely effective and tattoos should be considered permanent. This is why it is absolutely crucial to choose the most reputable cosmetic tattoo artist. One should not opt for the cheapest or nearest artist; rather, the most qualified.
A consultation will be the best way to find out more about an artist. He or she should be able to answer questions about costs, methods and the risks involved. Always prepare a list of questions beforehand and ask to see a portfolio of the artist s work. It is a good rule of thumb to consult with several artists and compare their answers. Even if the first artist seems perfect, this is not the time for a rash decision. It is always best to seek several opinions.
Costs of Permanent Makeup
The cost of permanent makeup can vary quite a bit. On average, a procedure costs between $400 and $800. However, it can sometimes be hard to predict how much a procedure will cost, as it may take several visits to complete the desired result. Many cosmetic tattoo artists charge an hourly rate, with some commanding as much as $150 - $250 per hour. The first visit for one procedure will often take 1.5 to 2 hours.
Permanent Makeup Regulations
Like any form of tattooing, there are regulations that apply to permanent makeup application. In the United States, the Department of Health oversees the various businesses that offer cosmetic tattoos. Naturally, this procedure must be administered in a sterile environment. While some areas of the world require a cosmetic license on the part of the tattoo artist, other places do not allow cosmetologists to administer permanent makeup. Each country is different and, in the case of the United States, local jurisdictions might have varying laws.
In the United States, the FDA pre-approves tattoo inks used in permanent makeup application. There are dozens of pigment shades used in cosmetic tattooing, all of which should pass the approval of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Although the FDA does actively monitor tattoo inks, the agency doesn t necessarily act as an enforcer where laws are concerned. Traditionally, local jurisdictions and the Department of Health are more hand-on with cosmetic tattoo artists.

Butterfly Tattoos
The Symbolism, Meaning and Mythology of the Butterfly Tattoo Design
Few images are more popular in the world of tattoo design then the butterfly. Whether free in nature or etched high on the crest of a feminine shoulder, the beauty and significance of the butterfly tattoo remains unsurpassed. Few would dispute the splendor in symmetry, color, form, flight or diversity of these creative designs. As butterflies begin their sojourn to summer habitats from around the world, thousands of different types, from the Black Swallowtail to the familiar Monarch will light up the sky with wonder from the Pacific coast to New England and beyond. Along the way, they will lay their eggs and when the eggs hatch into caterpillars, the whole cycle will begin again. This is the magic of their perseverance and the message in their ability to transform. This magic is embodied in the butterfly tattoo design you choose for your permanent body art collection.
Why are Butterfly Tattoo Designs so Popular?
Butterfly tattoo designs are more popular then flower tattoos, animal tattoos, dragon tattoos, fairy tattoos or any other tattoo design subject. These amazing creatures captivate our imaginations and have attracted countless individuals to permanently decorate their skin. Perhaps it is the infinite variety in pattern and color that makes them so popular. Maybe it is the way their bright and beautiful wings show a flash of color as they take flight and dance with a freedom and lightness that we can only imagine. Whatever the reason, butterfly tattoo designs look great on the skin. Whether you choose a butterfly as a lower back design or a small one as a ankle design, the butterfly makes a colorful statement. Often people choose a tribal butterfly tattoo. These black images can feature elaborate organic or Celtic patterns. Sometimes butterflies are seen with flowers for a stunning lower back or tail bone tattoo. The shape and symmetry of the butterfly have inspired tattoo artists and illustrators to create an incredible array of amazing designs to choose from. Butterfly designs are as varied and individual as the insects they are inspired by. They have as much personality as the people who choose to wear them.
Butterflies and Fairies - A long history together.
Butterflies have long been associated with Fairies. Who knows whether fairies borrow butterfly wings or butterflies borrow little fairy wings. Either way, we generally see fairies with the wings of a butterfly. Often in tattoo design, paintings, pictures and illustrations we can see butterflies and fairies together. Some artists have the idea that the butterfly best represents the multicultural aspects of Nature itself. Perhaps this represents the human desire to create harmony with nature. Perhaps it represents a desire to fly with the freedom and beauty of the butterfly.
The meaning of the Butterfly Tattoo Design
Children and adults watch with fascination as butterflies paint our world with the color and design, but there is more to the butterfly than mere symmetry of wings or kaleidoscopic beauty. When choosing your butterfly tattoo, you may want to consider what it symbolizes, what statement you are making, or what it is saying about you. Because of their temporary beauty and the dramatic transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, butterfly images have taken on many different meanings. To most people they represent change and growth. The mystery of how a caterpillar changes in to a butterfly during it's time in the cocoon has sparked stories and myths that are as varied and interesting as the patterns that they so beautifully display. As well as representing metamorphosis, butterfly tattoo design can represent freedom, the existence of life, life after death, and divine love. The diversity and the symbolism in the butterfly tattoo abounds.
Here are but a few of the hundreds of myths, folk-tales, and symbolic meanings surrounding the butterfly and the butterfly tattoo design.
These are just a few examples of the hundreds of metaphorical, mythological, symbolic and tribal meanings of the butterfly tattoo design. We continually add more meanings to the list with the passing of each century. Consider these deeper meanings when you consider choosing a butterfly tattoo design for your skin gallery. Rose Tattoo
&
What It Means
The rose is the single most popular tattoo design among men and women alike.
This flower, which is classically used to symbolize romantic love, has become an integral part of tattoo culture and tattoo design. However, there is actually a great deal more to the rose tattoo than you might first expect. While of course rose tattoos nearly always indicate a level of affection and deep emotion, the various types of emotion and the various indications of the level of affection and the type of affinity one feels can be discerned in great detail by examining the rose tattoo design itself. Whether you are "decoding" someone else's tattoo or are considering getting a rose tattoo design of your own, make that beautiful rose tattoo design highly indicative of exactly how and what you feel by factoring in the many layers of meaning that a rose tattoo design can hold.
Of course, as the famous rock song, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" can attest, just because the thorns are not visible does not mean they are not there. However, when you get a rose tattoo design, the decision to include thorns will say a lot about why you got the tattoo and the emotions that are behind your rose tattoo design. A rose tattoo that includes a rose with thorns indicates that beauty requires sacrifice, and love requires caution. Just as a beautiful rose can draw blood if it is not handled carefully, a beautiful love can break a heart or wound the one who loves if they do not handle their emotions and the relationship carefully. Even if you do love judiciously (which is hard to do anyway), you still can end up suffering when you ultimately lose the one you love at least temporarily to death or physical separation. Rose tattoos that have thorns symbolize love, but they also serve as a warning that love is not all beauty and happiness, but also comes with pain.
When you get a rose without thorns, you are asserting your belief that love is pure and that in the end, love conquers all and is worth everything. Some people even get rose tattoos without thorns to indicate that their love or their relationship is literally perfect and that they believe that the beauty of their love will not bring them or their beloved pain. Thornless rose tattoos also are used to indicate love at first sight, and generally focus on the romantic side of love that is rosy, pink and happy. They also can be used to indicate pure love, such as love for one's first sweetheart or even one's children. Either type of rose, thorny or thornless, can be an individual tattoo design or can be used as decoration for a larger tattoo, such as a memorial tattoo or a picture tattoo of someone that you love.
Traditionally, a red rose means love, end of story. However, that is really just the beginning. While red roses are probably the most common colored rose tattoo, there are many other colors of rose tattoo design just as there are many other colors of roses. Red roses indicate romantic love and can also be used to indicate lustful feelings or physical affection for someone. Yellow roses are often used to symbolize joy, and are often used to accent images related to one's children, particularly babies, or accomplishments. Yellow roses are also sometimes used to indicate religious joy, although this is more unusual since white roses are generally symbolic of pure love, platonic love and spiritual love and devotion. White roses also are used to indicate virginity, and often adorn tattoo images of the Virgin Mary and other female saint tattoos. Accents of red or pink on a white rose tattoo can indicate the blossoming of a different kind of love out of a friendship, and, more practically, create greater depth in the rose tattoo.
These mildly macabre rose tattoos are popular with people who enjoy goth tattoos and also with people who have been "burned" by love or who have given up on love. Even if they have not given up on all love, a black rose tattoo can symbolize the death of a relationship or an unwillingness to pursue a romantic goal any farther. Although not entirely identical to a black rose tattoo, grayscale rose tattoos are extremely popular. However, in this instance, the color is slightly less symbolic since many people just really like grayscale tattoos and prefer them to colored ones. Grayscale roses are also popular in memorial tattoos, and many people feel that they are more realistic looking than color rose tattoos.

Unicorn Tattoos
Unicorns are mythical creatures popularly depicted as a horse with a single horn growing from its head. Traditional unicorns also show a billy-goat beard, a lion's tail and cloven hooves. It is the only fantastic creature that does not seem to be a product of man's fears. They are the mythical counterpart to the western dragon myths. In mythical lore, only virgin maidens could tame a unicorn. There is a story in the Christian Bible that upon seeing the Virgin Mary, the unicorn laid its head in her lap.
Unicorns symbolize beauty, mystery, nobility and strength. They also are associated with virgins and chastity. They are also said to be representatives of Utopian like peace, magic and spiritual mysticism. The unicorn tattoo was popularized in the late sixties and throughout the seventies during a time of turmoil. Its symbol of peace and Utopia made it a world ideal. The unicorn experienced resurgence in current times after an increase in fantasy culture, like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Narnia. Tattoos with unicorns often incorporate other magical elements, like wizards and witches.
